Drew Hancock’s next horror movie, Seasons, already sounds like it could take things to a whole new level following his breakout directorial debut, Companion.
While speaking exclusively with According to Seth, Seasons star Dane DiLiegro offered an exciting tease of Hancock’s upcoming film, calling it “fcking terrifying” and the “most fcked up horror movie” he has ever read.
DiLiegro had just arrived from Ireland, where he had been working on Seasons, when we caught up with him on the red carpet for his latest film.
As a massive fan of Hancock’s Companion, I’ve been dying to see what the filmmaker does next, so there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity to ask DiLiegro about Seasons.
As it turns out, I didn’t even have to bring it up first.
Dane DiLiegro Gives According to Seth the Scoop on ‘Seasons’
After I complimented DiLiegro on his beard, the actor revealed that his new look was actually for Hancock’s upcoming horror film.
“Well, the beard is for Seasons.”
When I told him that Seasons was actually going to be my next question, DiLiegro joked that he was about to give us a scoop.
Oh, I’m getting the exclusive. Dane – You can get an exclusive right now.”
When asked what he could tell us about the film, DiLiegro had major praise for both Seasons and Hancock while making it clear just how terrifying the project is.
“Seasons is amazing. Drew Hancock is an absolute auteur. It is the most fcked up horror movie I’ve ever been a part of. It’s the most fcked up horror movie I’ve ever read. I’m not scared of a lot of sht. That movie is fcking terrifying.”
That is quite the statement coming from DiLiegro, who is certainly no stranger to the horror genre. He also praised his co-stars and revealed just how fresh his experience filming Seasons in Ireland still was when we spoke.
“Lily, James, Ron, Elizabeth — all incredible. This movie, like, I’m getting goosebumps, and I still have, like, blood and dirt under my nails from Ireland right here, right now. I’m very excited for this film.”
What Is Drew Hancock’s ‘Seasons’ About?
Seasons is based on a viral horror short story by Matt and Harrison Query, which was first posted on Reddit before the brothers expanded the story into their 2022 novel, Old Country.
The story follows a husband and wife who purchase what appears to be their dream ranch, only to discover that the land is inhabited by ancient spirits.
Living there comes with a terrifying set of rules. As the seasons change, so do the supernatural forces haunting the property, forcing the couple to submit to increasingly disturbing rituals in order to survive.
That premise makes DiLiegro’s comments about the film being “f*cking terrifying” all the more intriguing. His reveal that he still had “blood and dirt” underneath his fingernails after coming directly from the production in Ireland also paints an ominous picture of what Hancock and the cast have been filming.
Why ‘Seasons’ Should Be on Horror Fans’ Radar
Hancock set a high bar with Companion, which established the filmmaker as an exciting new voice in horror and showed his ability to play with genre conventions and audience expectations.
Seasons takes him into very different territory, trading Companion’s science-fiction-infused horror for ancient spirits, isolated land, and increasingly disturbing rituals.
DiLiegro calling Hancock an “absolute auteur” and Seasons the “most f*cked up horror movie” he has ever read is certainly enough to raise expectations.
For fans who have been waiting to see what Hancock would do after Companion, Seasons just became a whole lot harder to wait for.
